Balaklava Company at Ballater Highland Games

On Thursday 14 August 2025, soldiers from Balaklava Company, 5th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland (BKA Coy, 5 SCOTS), took part in the annual Ballater Highland Games. The day began with a ceremonial march through the town, led by the Ballater and District Pipe Band and proudly carrying the new Ballater Colour. Joining the parade was the Regiment’s mascot, Shetland pony (Cpl) Cruachan IV. The streets were lined with locals and visitors, who turned out in force to cheer on the soldiers as they made their way to the Games field.

On arrival, the Regiment provided an Honour Guard to welcome the Chieftain of the Games, the Laird of Invercauld. Before the weather took a turn, soldiers also got stuck into some of the morning’s traditional events, including the long jump and other heavy field events.

Unfortunately, the afternoon’s events were cut short as a sudden storm swept through the area. Heavy rain and strong winds meant organisers had no choice but to call off the remainder of the Games.
