The Princess Royal Visits 2 SCOTS at Glencorse Barracks
On Thursday, 30 October, 2nd Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland (2 SCOTS) had the privilege of hosting Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal at Glencorse Barracks in Penicuik. As Deputy Colonel-in-Chief of The Royal Regiment of Scotland, Her Royal Highness’s visit was a memorable occasion for the battalion.
The Princess Royal was welcomed on arrival by Major Hamish Waring, the battalion’s Second in Command, who accompanied her throughout the visit. During her time at Glencorse Barracks, The Princess Royal met with officers, soldiers, and their families, taking the opportunity to hear about their experiences and express her appreciation for their service.
The Princess Royal was then invited to plant a tree, turning the first shovelful of earth into the hole, to commemorate the visit. The tree was planted to mirror an adjacent tree which bears a plaque for Mary, Princess Royal, who planted it in 1929. Although the original tree was replanted by the Lord Lieutenant in 2006, the original plaque remains.
The visit concluded when Her Royal Highness was presented with a beautiful posy by the eight-year-old daughter of Warrant Officer Class 2, Stephanie Sanderson.
